SUMMARY:May The Toys Be With You
DESCRIPTION:The force is strong at the Museum of Gloucester!\nOn Saturday 24 June 2023\, from a galaxy far\, far away comes an absolute must see for fans of Star Wars and the silver screen… \nOne of the UK’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original cinema posters is going to go on display in a stunning exhibition brought to you by the Museum of Gloucester. \nBack in 1977 when the movie Star Wars broke box office records\, no one could have predicted that the merchandising would go on to earn even more than the film itself. The toys and merchandise of the film took the world by storm and became the must-have playthings for an entire generation. From 1977 to 1985\, an estimated 300 million action figures were sold\, allowing children to re-enact the adventures of Luke Skywalker\, Princess Leia and Han Solo. \nMay The Toys Be With You is both a celebration of the now highly collectable vintage toy line and also of the iconic design work and art of the Star Wars movies. From X-Wing Fighters to lightsabers\, these fantastical designs have fired our imaginations and stamped their place on our cultural landscape. For little kids and ‘big kids’ alike\, this is an unmissable opportunity to view many rarely seen Star Wars treasures. This exhibition has broken visitor attendance records at a host of museums around the country and we’re now getting excited for its visit to Gloucester. \nThe exhibition runs from Saturday 24 June until Saturday 30 September 2023 – please see the museum website for all opening hours. On Saturday 24 June\, please note that we are also inviting the fabulous Gloucestershire Troopers to ‘open’ the exhibition for us and be around the city centre welcoming visitors to Gloucester and the museum itself on the opening day…why not put your best Sar Wars inspired outfit on and join us for this exciting day! \nBooking tickets online in advance is essential to secure your place to see this exhibition! \nAdults – £6 | Seniors – £4.50 | Ages 18-25 – £3.50 | Under 18s – £2.50.

SUMMARY:Steampunks of Gloucestershire
DESCRIPTION:This Summer our Steampunk Festival celebrates characters from Quartermain\, Fogg\, and van Helsing to Randolph and John Carter\, to Holmes and Adèle Blanc-Sec\, and all those other extraordinary gentlefolk.\n\nAs well as our Market full of intriguing and beautiful objects there will be a whole host of Talks\, activities for all the kids and our Usual Cafe and Bar open to enjoy fun in the Sun.\n\nThe Great thing is that it’s free!!\n\n\nWhat is Steampunk?\nSteampunk is a celebration of the 19thc origins of Science Fiction.\n\nAlthough the name “Steampunk” is 20th century\, the style and form of Steampunk goes back to the earliest 19th-century authors who created the genre of Science Fiction. Those first authors were writing in the dawn light of the Industrial Revolution\, a time of infinite possibilities and infinite change. As time went on their fiction became not only speculation but inspiration\, and warnings\, to future generations.

SUMMARY:Three Choirs Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Gloucester Three Choirs Festival will be the 295th! \nNo other UK festival can come near to that record of longevity. We have centuries of tradition to refer to and to respect\, but the festival has survived so long through innovation\, sometimes gentle and sometimes radical. My first festival as a chorister in 1969 was by the standards of the time an extremely pioneering festival\, and a tradition of innovation has blossomed since then. \nWe’re excited to be introducing some new initiatives for 2023 which we hope will broaden singing opportunities – Artistic Director Adrian Partington \nProgramme launch – 22nd March 2023 / General bookings – Wednesday 26th April 2023.
