Those first authors were writing in the dawn light of the Industrial Revolution\, a time of infinite possibilities and infinite change. As time went on their fiction became not only speculation but inspiration\, and warnings\, to future generations.

Kelly has been recording its rich heritage and histories across the generations and along with an exhibition curated with Marsha O’Mahony and Georgia Williams at The Folk\, you’ll have an opportunity to taste the flavours of this community. \nThe day will include live Romany music\, campfire food\, peg-making\, plus an illustrated talk from Kelly. This is a free event but it is essential that you book here to secure your spot. \nVoices Gloucester is committed to ensuring that the projects and events that we organise and support\, contribute to the environmental wellbeing of Gloucester. We have centuries of tradition to refer to and to respect\, but the festival has survived so long through innovation\, sometimes gentle and sometimes radical. DESCRIPTION:A “Behind the Scenes” Tour of three Tudor houses “If only Walls could Talk”. \nTake a trip back in time guided by the colourful characters who lived and worked in this row of Tudor houses. Immerse yourself in fascinating facts and gory stories while you explore the many rooms with a serving maid\, or an undertaker\, a Puritan Mayor or other larger than life characters from the past 600 years. The Tour Guides will be dressed in costume\, representing a real person connected to the building. \nBe one of the first to explore these houses which were closed for several years! Walk on the squeaky floorboards and smell the history!\nGloucester Civic Trust have taken over this amazing and unique row of three Tudor houses from the City Council and want to bring life back into the buildings and keep them safe for future generations. \nYou will also hear about our plans as this will no longer be a museum but an exhibition and events space and a centre for the local community. \nPlease note that the Tour takes about 90 minutes. There are many steps and staircases so this tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility. \nThe Café will be open so please come a bit early and support our efforts to keep these beautiful buildings open by buying a cup of tea or coffee before the Tour as the Introduction to the Tour usually starts here.

Exploring the power of the imagination\, we invite families to follow Nora as she discovers the wonders hidden beyond the shrubbery. Come and enjoy the brilliance of this story brought to life. \nWorking closely with the author\, this much loved book has been turned into a theatre piece which promises fun for all the family. \nThe café will be open before the show for snacks and drinks. Only food and drink purchased on the premises may be consumed onsite. \nThe show will last approximately 45 minutes\, with 15 minutes at the end for children to meet the puppets. The show timings are 11am and 2:30pm. \nAll tickets £12.50.

Sponsored by Gloucester BID\, the lantern workshops will be in Eastgate shopping centre between 1-4pm. \nLantern Procession & Christmas Lights Switch on – 4.40pm \nWe see the return of the Lantern Procession and Christmas Lights Illumination on 18 November\, starting at 4.40pm in Southgate Street. Children across 6 primary schools this year have drawn upon the theme of the ’12 days of Christmas’\, an array of illuminated lanterns\, pipers piping\, and flying gold rings\, will form a parade. Pupils from 6 Gloucester schools taking part this year are: Meadowside Primary School\, The Altus School\, Coney Hill Community Primary School\, Field Court C of E Infant Academy\, Dinglewell Junior School\, and Kingsway Primary School. \nFor the first time the parade route will include Kings Square. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Sing-Along-A-Christmas Carol event at the historic Blackfriars Priory\, (off Ladybellegate Street) Gloucester on Wednesday 6th December; 7.15pm until 9.30pm. Doors open at 6.45pm to enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie which are included in the ticket price (a suitable drink for the youngsters). Take a chance in our raffle with prizes kindly donated by our clients and Gloucestershire based businesses. Then join-in with all your favourite Christmas Carols and other Christmas songs with music provided by the Flowers Brass Band\, the West of England’s highest ranked brass band. \nAll proceeds from the event will be donated to local charity\, Young Gloucestershire (YG). YG supports young people to have the confidence\, motivation and skills to improve their lives. \nChristmas isn’t always a magical time for young people. Vulnerable young people are stuck at home facing domestic violence\, exploitation\, and poor family life. This Christmas\, come together as a business community to support these young people by raising money. Last year\, our event raised over £2000 for Young Gloucestershire. \nNB. Owing to the age of the building\, despite being indoors we advise that attendees wear warm clothes and perhaps bring a rug or blanket.

DESCRIPTION:Gloucester’s very own Santa Fun Run – Run\, Walk\, Stroll or Jog a 1 or 5 kilometre course!\n\nWe’re back in the city and can’t wait to see you in your festive fancy dress. This year the #GlosSantaFunRun is on Saturday 9th December 2023 outside the old Debenhams Store in Kings Square. Registration from 9.30am for a 10.00 start.\n\nLast year you helped raise over £2\,400 for local charities; so let’s see if we can beat that this year. Lets fill Kings Square so spread the word!\n\nA FUN DAY FOR ALL – Please DRESS UP AS SANTA OR AN ELF to make it more fun!\nWe look forward to you joining us by running in your full Santa Set up on Saturday 9th December 2023 in the City or during that week if you’re doing the virtual fun run and posting your photos to show that you’ve done it on our Social Media. Please use #GlosSantaFunRun\n\nSo put on a Santa Hat and Snood or a full Santa Outfit and run\, walk or be pushed round a 1k or 5k route of your choice.\n\nThis event is organised by the Rotary Club of Gloucester and sponsored and supported by Gloucester BID\, Nettl and Cass-Stephens Insurances Ltd.\n\nFind out more here.
