DESCRIPTION:An uplifting evening of beautiful music\, poignant readings and thoughtful reflections to mark 100 years since the end of WW1\, the formation of the RAF and to recognise the contribution made by the people of Gloucestershire. \nThe first half will focus on remembrance\, acknowledging the journey of those who served\, who sacrificed and survived\, with the second half featuring uplifting and stirring music with the theme of hope and celebration. \nFeaturing the D-Day Darlings fresh from ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent\, Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra\, supported by Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir and joined by distinguished speakers to include BAFTA Fellowship recipient and war correspondent\, Kate Adie CBE and compered by BBC’s Steve Knibbs. All proceeds will help fund the ABF: The Soldiers’ Charity and Alabaré’s Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans.

DESCRIPTION:Gloucester Cathedral is delighted to be hosting a very special centenary performance of Holst’s much-loved Planets Suite\, in the composer’s own county Cathedral. \nThe Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Gloucester Cathedral’s Director of Music Adrian Partington in what will be a roof-raising concert of light and sound. The Cathedral’s own Girl Choristers will perform the famous ethereal ladies’ chorus that ends the suite. \nThe concert will begin with a performance of Sir Edward Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture. \nWritten at the end of WW1\, during which Holst spent time working with troops at Salonica\, the Planets Suite is an apt start to the Cathedral’s autumn programme of events commemorating the end of the war. \nLaura Kinnear\, Curator of the Holst Birthplace Museum\, will deliver a pre-concert talk in the Lady Chapel at 6.00pm\, covering her research into Holst’s war work and the ongoing Salonica exhibition at the Museum. \nThe Sauret Strad returns to Gloucester … \nThe programme will also include fellow Gloucestershire composer Vaughan Williams’s Lark Ascending\, frequently named as one the Britain’s favourite classical works\, and composed as a response to WW1. We are thrilled that rising star Nazrin Rashidova will perform the violin solo in this work\, and even more so that she will be playing it on the 1685 Sauret Stradivari.

SUMMARY:The Way of the Cross – On the Streets of Gloucester
DESCRIPTION:This Good Friday\, 18 April\, sees a first for Gloucester Cathedral and the city’s churches as they come together to perform a brand new telling of the Passion\, the last hours of Christ in the streets of Gloucester.  Performed by people from the Christian community\, it is a chance for the people of Gloucestershire to re-live the events of that first Good Friday\, from Jesus’ sentencing by Pilate to his Crucifixion. \n  \nThe events of Good Friday did not take place behind closed doors\, inside a building. They happened on the streets\, and it is important that we bear witness to this.
