DESCRIPTION:Come along to Guildhall to enjoy a showcase of Chinese arts\, as a variety of performers and speakers open a window on this ancient and beautiful culture\, to tell stories of those who have travelled halfway across the world to settle in Gloucester. \nWe’ll be treated to a spectacular demonstration of traditional Chinese dance\, costume\, music\, poetry\, folk tales – all interwoven with local history\, with opportunities to participate and discover a rich heritage. \nOur community producer\, Candice Yu\, will introduce us to performers and artists\, including the Oriental Heritage Enchanting group\, Ella Backhouse\, Jinjing\, Zhuzhu\, Gigi\, Estelle\, Helen Marriott\, Wendy Mo-Keat\, and Sasha Wilson. \nDrop in between 4 and 8pm – this event is free\, however booking is essential.

This incredible immersive sculpture allowed you to walk through a meditative ‘forest’ of light\, and was produced as part of LandMark\, a Sky Arts programme featuring sculpters from across the UK. Scintillating Birch Forest was showcased by Bright Nights in 2021 at Gloucester Guildhall. Immerse yourself in fascinating facts and gory stories while you explore the many rooms with a serving maid\, or an undertaker\, a Puritan Mayor or other larger than life characters from the past 600 years. The Tour Guides will be dressed in costume\, representing a real person connected to the building. \nBe one of the first to explore these houses which were closed for several years! Walk on the squeaky floorboards and smell the history!\nGloucester Civic Trust have taken over this amazing and unique row of three Tudor houses from the City Council and want to bring life back into the buildings and keep them safe for future generations. \nYou will also hear about our plans as this will no longer be a museum but an exhibition and events space and a centre for the local community. \nPlease note that the Tour takes about 90 minutes. There are many steps and staircases so this tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility. \nThe Café will be open so please come a bit early and support our efforts to keep these beautiful buildings open by buying a cup of tea or coffee before the Tour as the Introduction to the Tour usually starts here.

Some say The Jack in the Green dates back to pagan times\, no-one knows for sure. What is certain was that this colourful custom accompanied by a parade of extravagantly dressed chimney sweeps was alive and flourishing in England in the 18th\, 19th and early 20th centuries. Through video and song we follow the story of this audacious attempt to bring this peculiar British custom back to the streets of Gloucestershire whilst learning about other strange English customs that continue to this very day.

DESCRIPTION:This session will focus on the threat posed by cyber criminals\, who pose on of the main threats to businesses but about whom most of us know very little. \nWe’ll look at the extent and reality of attacks based on latest available data\, and we’ll run through some of the simple measures that can make an enormous difference to your security. \nThe session will be led by Simon Williams\, of Gloucestershire police\, who is the force’s dedicated Cyber Protect officer\, and by Mark Moore of the South West Cyber Resilience Centre. \nThe Centre is an initiative supported by regional policing to provide free and ongoing support to local businesses and charities\, and we’ll explore what’s available for you and your teams\, and how to access it. \nThis should be a great opportunity to find out about all the things you weren’t taught at school\, from independent sources with no vested interest in selling to you. \nMark Moore is a serving superintendent from the Devon and Cornwall Police\, running the Cyber Resilience Centre on behalf of the region’s forces. Previously a force digital leader\, he has spent almost three years growing the operation to the point where it now supports almost a thousand regional businesses. Simon Williams is Gloucestershire Police’s Cyber Protect officer\, with responsibility for helping communities and organisations of all types to stay safe from digital threats. Both are passionate about what they do\, and are keen to demystify the sometimes bewildering – and often expensive – world of cyber. \nTeas/Coffees and Bacon Baps will be provided.
