SUMMARY:Gloucester Knife Angel
DESCRIPTION:The 27-foot-high sculpture\, made from over 100\,000 seized blades is coming to Gloucester in February 2023 as part of its National Anti-Violence Tour. It was created to highlight the negative effects of violent and aggressive behaviour. Not only does it act as a catalyst for turning the tide on such behaviour\, it also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate lives lost through these violent and thoughtless actions. \nThe Knife Angel will be outside Gloucester’s iconic Cathedral between 1st and 28th February 2023 as part of its National Anti-Violence Tour. The Knife Angel is a huge\, stunning contemporary sculpture of an angel made out of confiscated knives received from 43 Police Forces across the UK. It weighs in at a hefty 3.5 tonnes. \nOriginating from The British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry and created by sculptor Alfie Bradley\, it is on tour of towns and cities around Britain raising awareness of the issues of knife crime. \nThe Knife Angel’s arrival in Gloucester will be backed up by a month-long series of events\, workshops and other activities across the city involving a range of organisations and people of all ages and backgrounds. The Knife Angel’s time in Gloucester will commence with an opening ceremony and conclude with a community vigil.

SUMMARY:Tours of the Folk of Gloucester - "If Only Walls Could Talk!"
DESCRIPTION:Be one of the first to explore this building which was closed for several years!  Walk on the squeaky floorboards and smell the history! \nGloucester Civic Trust have taken over this amazing and unique row of three Tudor houses from the City Council and want to bring life back into the buildings and keep them safe for future generations. \nGuided tours are now available and tell the stories of the buildings themselves and the people who owned them or worked or lived in them during the last 600 years.  The tour guides will be dressed in costume\, representing a real person connected to the building. \nFind out why someone was hiding in the loft of the coal house\, or who received special dispensation from the Privy Council in the sixteenth century.  Hear the story about Bishop Hooper and the room he is reputed to have stayed in the night before he was burnt at the stake in 1555. \nWho owned and lived in these buildings during the Civil War and the Seige of Gloucester in 1643?  Who set up the largest pin making factory in Gloucester here in the 18th Century and exhibited their state-of-the-art machinery in the Great Exhibition in 19th Century?  Who was the very last baby to be born here in 20th Century?\nAnd –\nWhere was the witch’s bottle found? \nAll these questions will be answered during the tour. \nYou will also hear about our plans for the future of the buildings which will no longer be a museum but an exhibition and events space and a centre for the local community. \nNotes\nPlease note that the Tour takes about 90 minutes and costs £7 for adults\, £3 for children under16 (who must be accompanied by and adult).  There is a limit of 10 people on each tour.  Book now to avoid disappointment. \nAccess to the first and second floors is via staircases.  There is no lift access.  This means the tour is unsuitable for pushchairs\, users of wheelchairs and those with limited mobility. \nThe Café will be open so please come a bit early and support our efforts to keep these beautiful buildings open by buying a cup of tea or coffee before the Tour as the Introduction to the Tour usually starts here. The Folk of Gloucester is managed by Gloucester Civic Trust Limited\nRegistered in England | Company No.01078805 | Charity No.264719\nRegistered Office: Bishop Hooper House\, 99-103 Westgate Street\, Gloucester\, GL1 2PG
