400 artists set to hit Gloucester this weekend

Over 400 artists will be on the streets of Gloucester’s city centre this weekend live painting, sculpting, drawing and any other art form you can think of for Gloucester’s brand new art event, Art in the City.

The event consists of various demonstrations of live art throughout the city, free workshops and classes for the public to sign up to as well as competitions with prize money amounting to £3800.  With different categories in the competition, a variety of different art forms for the demonstrations and workshops, there is sure to be something for everyone this weekend at Art in the City.

The event begins this Saturday morning and will go on throughout the day until 6pm when the competition closes. The following day on Sunday the 31^st of July, Art in the City continues with plenty more demonstrations and workshops for the public.  Members of the public are invited to enter the competition for free or to register for a free workshop on a variety of different art classes. There is also a number of demonstrations taking place throughout the two days, ranging from chainsaw carving and stone carving, to large upside down speed painting and giant chalk street art. Marketing Gloucester has organised a prestigious and high quality line up of Judges for Art in the City to bring great expertise and knowledge to the competition. The judges are Lady Bathurst – The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, acclaimed artists Russell Haines, Swarez and the renowned P J Crook.

Art in the City is organised by Marketing Gloucester and is part of the SoMAC (Summer of Music, Arts and Culture) festival with funding from The Arts Council of, platinum sponsors WSP Solicitors and Toyota Listers and supported by Gloucester City Council.

Alongside everything else, there is also a public social media competition with multiple prizes up to £100 to be awarded winners. To enter all a member of the public has to do is upload a picture to Instagram or Twitter of their impression of Art in the City and use the hashtags #ArtInTheCity #WDYT #SnapHappy #SoMAC #Gloucester. This will automatically enrol you for the chance to win up to £100.
