Cheltenham’s Business Improvement District (BID) has set up a deal with Stagecoach that will provide cheaper bus travel for staff of more than 600 businesses in the town.

Members of staff buying a weekly or monthly pass can travel at significantly reduced prices.

Anyone travelling in the Cheltenham area can buy a weekly ticket for just £10 – and travel for seven days – and there are similar savings across Gloucestershire.

Stagecoach managing director Rupert Cox said the company was delighted to be working with the BID.
“We are keen to support Cheltenham businesses and their staff and want to see use of our services in the town continue to grow,” he said.

BID Director Kevan Blackadder said: “This is a great way for town centre staff to save money, while easing the pressure on parking spaces at the same time.

“The deal will help staff already using Stagecoach’s services but we hope it will also encourage many others to look at travelling to work by bus. Compared to the cost of using a car to get to work, the weekly or monthly tickets will represent a significant saving.”

Cheltenham BID represents more than 600 businesses in the town centre, and as well as introducing schemes to save the businesses and their staff money, will work to ensure the town flourishes and to increase footfall and the number of visitors.

The BID has arranged the following deals with Stagecoach across its main zones:
⦁ Cheltenham: 1 week £10 (normal price £13), 4 weeks £39 (£50). Zone includes all of Cheltenham Borough Council area plus Bishop’s Cleeve, Airport, Churchdown and Shurdington
⦁ Cheltenham and Gloucester: 1 week £14 (£17.50), 4 weeks £53 (£67). Zone includes all stated above for Cheltenham plus Gloucester City Council area, Brockworth, Highnam, Twigworth, Brookthorpe and Hardwicke
⦁ All Zones ‘Gold’ ticket: 1 week £16 (£20), 4 weeks £61 (£77). Covers Tewkesbury, Stonehouse, Stroud or Cirencester and any Stagecoach bus in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Swindon, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

Arrangements are being made with BID businesses so that staff are authorised to buy the tickets direct from the Stagecoach Travel Shop in Cheltenham.
