A key step in the transformation of Gloucester has started with a Planning Inspector examining the blue print for development in the city.

The hearings for the Gloucester City Plan run until Wednesday, June 9 and are being screening live on the Council’s YouTube channel.

The plan, which was unanimously agreed by the Council, will ensure that new developments are high quality, provide community infrastructure and open spaces and take into consideration the city’s commitment to addressing climate change and protecting the environment.

In addition, it will set out where land can be developed to grow the local economy and provide new homes that meet the needs of our community.

Key issues the Inspector will examine include flood risks and water management, sustainable transport, allocations for development, as well as the provision of affordable housing and community infrastructure.

Adam Gooch, Planning Policy Manager at Gloucester City Council, said: “The city plan is an extremely important document and will be the blueprint for the city up to 2031. Once adopted, it will help deliver new homes and jobs for our communities, whilst protecting the important natural and historic environment.”
