The Chief Constable of Gloucestershire Constabulary has paid tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh.

Chief Constable Rod Hansen said: “On behalf of the Constabulary I wish to extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family on the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh who passed peacefully away this morning at Windsor Castle.

“His Royal Highness provided exemplary service to our country, including active service in the Second World War. His selfless devotion to the Queen, our country and to public service as the Queen’s consort for the last 69 years is one we should all honour and give thanks for.

“Here in Gloucestershire, we have a deep connection to the Royal Family, with both the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal having their homes in our county. We pass on our sincere condolences to them and their families at this very sad time.

“As a mark of our respect, the Union flag is flying at half-mast at Headquarters and the Sabrina Centre.

“Should you wish to pay your respects, an online Book of Condolence is now available at www.royal.uk.”
