Gloucestershire based charity The Family Haven, which provides a day centre for vulnerable families with children under five, is calling on local people to help it gain extra funding through Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner campaign.

The will be using the funds to buy an iPad for the Nursery to enable the children to access education software to improve their reading and number skills as well as teaching them how to use a computer

The campaign launched at 10am on the 18th October and will end either on the 17th November at 5pm or when all the funds have run out – whichever comes first! During the campaign, one-time donations will be matched pound-for-pound up to £10 and monthly donations up to £10 per month for three months.

Local supporters can help by making a donation during the campaign. For a one-time £10 donation with Gift Aid, The Family Haven receives £21.67! Supporters can make one-time donations and set up a one monthly Direct Debit per charity which could result in over £80 funding.

The government has contributed £245,000 to match donations to charities and community groups made through the campaign, bringing the total amount available to match donations to £345,000. It has also announced plans for a Local Charities Day on 16th December.

Helen Jackson, Nursery Manager at The Family Haven said, “2016 has been a great year for us so far, we’ve helped a big group of children prepare to start school last month, we’ve had a lot of airplay on Heart Gloucestershire as part of the Make Some Noise Campaign, and had a great day trip to Weston Super Mare with our families. Grow Your Tenner is an exciting campaign and a fantastic opportunity for us to finish the year on a high. All donations will make a huge difference to us and with the added bonus of doubled donations we hope local people will join in. Even an additional £100 of funding would enable us to buy essential IT equipment to help us get closer to gaining an Ofsted Outstanding rating at our next inspection.”

Stephen Mallinson, Chief Executive of Localgiving, said: “Local charities are at the forefront of every community, offering vital services and supporting the most vulnerable people in society. Localgiving hope that through the Grow Your Tenner campaign, more people are able to connect with charities and community groups in Gloucestershire like The Family Haven and offer their support. The campaign also encourages local organisations to engage with online fundraising which is becoming an increasingly important channel for groups who are trying to become less dependent on grants and take control of their futures.”
