Museum offers history talks

Visitors to the Jet Age Museum on Sunday 27^th November will have the opportunity to learn about the roles Gloucestershire’s airfields played in both World Wars.

Esteemed aviation authors and historians David Berryman and Dave Partridge will be giving talks on the earliest pioneering days of Royal Flying Corps WWI activity at Rendcombe and Leighterton through to the aircraft development, production and operations in WWII at places such as Staverton, Stoke Orchard, Kemble and Brockworth.  The talks will take place at 11, 12, 1.30 and 2.30pm.

Museum trustee, Darren Lewington said: – “We’re delighted to be offering our visitors an additional reason to visit on Sunday. Our County has played an important role in military aviation for a century and it is very much our job to tell that story.”

The museum reached another milestone last week when the 10th Cheltenham Beavers became the attraction’s 75 000th visitors since its opening in August 2013.

Darren added: – “Our weekday schools, clubs and group tours, which are available by prior arrangement – along with special events such as these talks –  are bringing our story to a much wider audience and making a significant contribution to our fundraising activities.  We need to raise over £750k for our phase two development, which will add an education facility and gallery to our portfolio.”

Located at Meteor Business Park, the museum is a registered charity, staffed entirely by volunteers.  Open at weekends and Bank Holidays from 10-4pm, parking and admission are free, donations are welcomed. Visit the website www.jetagemuseum.org for more details.
