Wayne Bowcock has taken up his role as Gloucestershire’s new Chief Fire Officer.

As well as leading Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS), Wayne has joined the council’s corporate management team where he will champion the work of the service and support development of the wider work of the council.

Wayne was appointed following an extensive two day interview process in October last year.

Wayne started his career as a firefighter for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and has gone on to amass 26 years experience in a range of operational and leadership roles. Wayne joins GFRS having been Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service since 2014.

In addition to his responsibilities for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, which included leading on cultural and organisational development, service delivery and corporate support, Wayne sits on the National Fire Chief’s Council operations committee and is chair of the National Fire Chief’s Council Training Managers Forum. Wayne also chaired the East Midlands Fire and Rescue Operations Committee, working to embed national learning and collaboration to improve effectiveness and efficiency across the East Midlands area.

Chief Fire Officer Wayne Bowcock said: I am very pleased to have taken up my role as the county’s Chief Fire Officer. I am proud to join a service that is as well-equipped, highly skilled, and motivated as GFRS. I fully intend to build upon these strengths and provide the highest standard of service to communities across the county.

“I am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff in the service, colleagues across the council and with partners to deliver excellent services for the people of Gloucestershire.

Cllr Dave Norman, Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service said: “I am looking forward to working with Wayne to take the Service to the next level, delivering much respected and valued services for people across the county.”

“Wayne impressed everyone during the two day interview process and it is great that he is now in post.”
