Council leader Paul James announced he has appointed Cllr Steve Morgan as cabinet member for culture and leisure and Cllr Andrew Gravells as cabinet member for planning and housing strategy.

Cllr Morgan replaces Cllr Lise Noakes, who sadly passed away on Sunday following a short illness, and Cllr Gravells takes over from Cllr Colin Organ who was appointed by councillors to the position of mayor at the meeting.

Cllr Morgan said: “I’m delighted to take up this role and I look forward to working with colleagues and partners to ensure there is an exciting and vibrant culture and leisure offer for those that live, visit and work in the city. It is sad that I am taking over under these circumstances but I am committed to carrying on the fantastic work Lise achieved during her time in this role.”

On his appointment as cabinet member for planning and housing strategy, Cllr Gravells said: “I am pleased to be taking up this role and look forward to driving forward our offer and services for communities across the city in relation to planning and housing matters.”

Announcing the changes Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “Steve and Andrew bring a great deal of experience with them, having both previously held the position of deputy leader and fulfilled cabinet member roles. I look forward to working with Steve, Andrew and other cabinet colleagues to deliver the best possible services for residents, and ensure the city is a place we can all be truly proud of. I’d like to put on record my thanks to Lise and Colin who both worked tirelessly for the good of the city during their time in the cabinet.”
