Pair who rescued man from a smoke-filled property awarded by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/Two neighbours who saved a man’s life after putting their own safety aside by entering a burning house have been recognised with a Chief Constable’s Award.
Robert Jessep and Lloyd Green courageously rescued a man from a smoke-filled property in Gloucester earlier this year.
The pair had scaled the stairs and used their clothing to protect themselves from the flames when they came across a man who appeared unconscious inside the property.
The brave men worked together to carry him downstairs and out of the burning house to safety which resulted in the home owner only suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
Both men ultimately saved a life on 29 June and they were recognised for their valiant efforts during Gloucestershire Constabulary and Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Impact Awards on Friday night.
The ceremony is designed to recognise the outstanding work of our officers, staff, volunteers and members of the public who have gone the extra mile to make Gloucestershire a safe place to live.
The Chief Constable’s Award is awarded to members of the public in recognition for taking courageous action.
On receiving the award, Mr Green said: “It feels great to know that the home owner is OK and to be appreciated for my involvement in this incident.
“I feel there was a wonderful atmosphere at the awards evening and it was also interesting to listen to the stories of the other awardees.
“I feel the news in general is usually dominated by negative stories so it was inspiring and encouraging to hear of the positive news within our community.”
