Refurbished bungalows make lives easier by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/Gloucester City Homes (GCH) has handed over three new one-bed bungalows at the existing St James Close Scheme in Quedgeley to local residents.
The new homes add to 11 bungalows that were completed on the site in early 2019.
Built
by local company Aqua Construction, the level access bungalows were refurbished
from the schemes old communal lounge and office and offer affordable rent
housing to local people.One
of the properties has been built with specific medical adaptations so that it
can be used by wheelchair users and meets CAT 2 standards. The alterations
include increased width hallways and doors, lowered counter tops and a fully
accessible wet room.New
resident Mr Bendle commented: “We are over the moon and ecstatic with the
property. It’s something that’s been needed for a long time and will help us
massively.”Creating this medically adapted bungalow is part of
a pilot scheme with the City Council to create suitable homes for local people
with specific housing needs and is the third new home GCH has built with specific requirements within the City.Jason Humphries, GCH’s Tenancy Services and ASB
Manager added: “We’re delighted to have completed the further 3 level access
bungalows at St James Close. We’ve worked in close partnership with the
Enabling and Housing Teams at the City Council to consider applicants with a
medical need for ground floor accommodation which has helped to release larger
family housing elsewhere. We are pleased to have been able to provide more
housing with tailored adaptations working with the applicants, occupational
health, the local authority and the developer Aqua Construction.”
