Resurfacing scheme completed on Gloucester’s London Road

Resurfacing work in London Road in Gloucester has been completed as part of the county council’s £150 million investment in the county’s roads.

The work was carried out between 21 and 28 September as the surface between the Cheltenham Road junction and Barnwood Road roundabout needed attention.

Crews worked between 9.30am and 3.30pm to keep the road open during peak travel times and to prevent any clash with ongoing work at London Road, where a new cycle lane is being installed.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: “Thousands of road users use this part of the city every day so it was important to carry out this work before the road surface deteriorated any further. I’m delighted to see it has been completed so everyone using the road can benefit from our £150 million investment.”

Cllr Jeremy Hilton, county councillor for Kingsholm and Wotton, said: “I’m pleased to see this essential resurfacing work has now been completed. It means that all road users can now enjoy safer and more pleasant journeys.”

Work on the London Road cycle scheme is progressing well. It aims to encourage walking and cycling during the Covid-19 pandemic to improve public health and take pressure off public transport.
