The A46 Shurdington Road between Leckhampton and Warden Hill will be resurfaced overnight from Thursday 1st November as part of our £150m investment into the county’s roads.

Shurdington Road in Cheltenham is a busy A road and requires resurfacing due to it reaching the end of its life expectancy. Every effort is being taken to minimise disruption, so the road will still be open during peak times.

The road will be closed overnight between Thursday 1st to Friday 16th November (excluding Saturday and Sunday nights) between the hours of 7pm – 7am.

A diversion suitable for all type of vehicles will be in place. Your highways crews will complete vital resurfacing over 11,475m² of road with approximately 1,350 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “We’re resurfacing the busy Shurdington Road in Cheltenham as part of our £150 million promise to upgrade the county’s highways. As this is a popular route, we’re making the improvements at night time so that any disruption can be kept to a minimum. I’d like to thank local residents and road users for their patience.”

What’s the diversion route? (suitable for HGV’s)

From south of the closure continue along Up Hatherley Way, Cold Pool Lane, Grovefield Way and Hatherley Lane until you reach the A40 Golden Valley Roundabout. At the first roundabout take the third exit and onto the A40 towards Cheltenham town centre. At the second roundabout take the second exit continuing on the A40 and then follow the road around the Texaco garage island onto the A40 Andover Road in the direction of the A46 Stroud. At the junction with the A46 Bath Road turn right and continue along the A46 in the Stroud direction to the point of the closure.

Gloucestershire County Council is investing £150 million into our roads, to help keep your county moving – our biggest ever investment. Keep up to date with works and road closures near you by following @GlosRoads on Twitter and Facebook.
