The Summer of Music, Arts and Culture (SoMAC) in Gloucester has had a very successful start to its first year with thousands attending some incredible events such as; Art in the City, Carnival, Rugby in the Park, Gloucester Rhythm and Blues Festival and the Fireworks Spectacular.

SoMAC still has lots in store for Gloucester throughout August with events such as Sportbeat Festival, Gloucester Goes Retro, the Gloucester Mini Folk Festival and the SoMAC Stage in Kings Square.

The SoMAC stage will be in Kings Square between Tuesday the 23rd August and Friday the 26th August and will host a star-studded line-up of DJ’s, community artists and musicians as well as free workshops in dance and beatbox, puppet making workshops and performance groups such as London based acrobatic theatre group Mimbre.  The SoMAC stage is hoping to bring more culture to Gloucester through music and arts and build on the ‘cultural revolution’ already taking place in the City.

Mhairi Smith, Events Director at Marketing Gloucester said: “It’s fantastic that the Arts Council funding has allowed us to book such great professional groups from as far as London that Gloucester can see and experience through the free workshops that are also running in conjunction with the SoMAC stage. The SoMAC Stage will have great performers for the public to enjoy such as Avant Garde, Filskit Theatre, Mimbre, Tim Cassons, Slinky Love performance arts group and Scott James & the Revolution. It is promising to be a great event and we can’t wait to deliver it to the Gloucester public”.

For the full line up of performers and acts that will appear on the SoMAC stage in Kings Square and to sign up for the free workshops, please visit: www.somac.org.uk.
