King’s Square’s ‘mini-festival’ -style stage – part of SoMAC (Summer of Music, Arts and Culture) –will feature young up-and-coming pop, rock and urban musicians from around Gloucestershire at lunchtimes from Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th August.

The musicians, aged from 12 upwards, have all been working in some way with Gloucestershire’s community music charity, The Music Works. They have either attended Audio-Base Saturday morning rock, pop and music technology sessions at Sir William Romney School, Tetbury or Lakers School, Coleford or the after-school club at Sound Space studios, which is in the grounds of Forest High, Cinderford; or they’ve taken part in studio sessions at Studio 340, Cheltenham, which is co-run by CCP and The Music Works.

These fresh new artists will be featured in the ‘community artists’ section of the packed King’s Square live music programme, between 11am-12noon on Tuesday and Thursday; 11am-12.30pm on Wednesday; 12-2pm on Thursday; and 11am-12noon on Friday.

On Tuesday, the stage features Wesley Lowe, Millie Elsmore, Robyn Laura and Shawn Wheatley, solo singers for the Forest of Dean and Tetbury area; on Wednesday, Drifted, a band based in and around Tetbury and Chelsea Adams, Chloe Ward, Rhys Wilkins, soloists from Forest High; on Thursday there’ll be a range of musicians from around the county; and on Friday, Tetbury-based 12-year-old DJ/producer Daniel Kostine (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxs5XklNaic)  takes to the stage, plus Spanish guitarist Fin Wicks and JoJo Danielle, singer/songwriter and guitarist.

The Music Works is a charity which transforms lives through music, working with young people in some of the most challenging circumstances, breaking down barriers to accessing music making opportunities, and nurturing up-and-coming young talent. It is also one of the main partners in (and is part-funded by), Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub, led by the county council.
