SUMMARY:Sharing The Same One Sky
DESCRIPTION:Come along to Guildhall to enjoy a showcase of Chinese arts\, as a variety of performers and speakers open a window on this ancient and beautiful culture\, to tell stories of those who have travelled halfway across the world to settle in Gloucester. \nWe’ll be treated to a spectacular demonstration of traditional Chinese dance\, costume\, music\, poetry\, folk tales – all interwoven with local history\, with opportunities to participate and discover a rich heritage. \nOur community producer\, Candice Yu\, will introduce us to performers and artists\, including the Oriental Heritage Enchanting group\, Ella Backhouse\, Jinjing\, Zhuzhu\, Gigi\, Estelle\, Helen Marriott\, Wendy Mo-Keat\, and Sasha Wilson. \nDrop in between 4 and 8pm – this event is free\, however booking is essential.

SUMMARY:A Costume for Gloucester
DESCRIPTION:A Costume for Gloucester is a trailblazing project\, which has been put together by Voices Gloucester in collaboration with Gloucester Cathedral. Designed by locally-based costumier Katie Taylor and forming part of Threads 2023\, A Costume for Gloucester celebrates the city’s diverse people\, eclectic history and fascinating stories. It has been created by over 100 community stitching groups\, with each embroidered section telling something about the identity of its maker. \nThe beautiful costume will be on display in the Lady Chapel of the Cathedral between 16 September and 1 October.

DESCRIPTION:A special event exploring Gloucester’s Romany / Gypsy heritage through music\, food and more. \nKelly Marie Horsley was born into the Romany/Gypsy community in Gloucester – her mother’s first language is Romany. Kelly has been recording its rich heritage and histories across the generations and along with an exhibition curated with Marsha O’Mahony and Georgia Williams at The Folk\, you’ll have an opportunity to taste the flavours of this community. \nThe day will include live Romany music\, campfire food\, peg-making\, plus an illustrated talk from Kelly. This is a free event but it is essential that you book here to secure your spot. \nVoices Gloucester is committed to ensuring that the projects and events that we organise and support\, contribute to the environmental wellbeing of Gloucester. Where possible please use public transport to attend this event.
