DESCRIPTION:Horace Andy is a Jamaican singer-songwriter known as the sweetest voice in reggae and for his long association with British trip-hop band Massive Attack. He was born as Horace Hinds on February 19 1951 in Kingston and is also known as “Sleepy” He has become an enduring voice on the Jamaican music scene. Note his signature early 1970s hit\, ‘Skylarking’defining his ability to deliver songs of black determination and social commentary and it topped the Jamaican charts…. but he equally delivers songs of love. \nWorking with Coxsone Dodd in the early days Andy recorded tunes like ‘See A Man’s Face’and the well-received “Mr Bassie” Andy has consistently recorded and performed around the world in his own right with his band and has remained massive in reggae subgenres roots reggae\, rocksteady\, lover’s rock and dancehall. In 1990\, he was discovered by the Bristol based trip-hop band Massive Attack\, who cited Andy’s work as a major influence. He recorded the song\n“One Love” for their 1991 debut album\, Blue Lines and the band’s popularity exposed Andy to a younger\ngeneration of fans\, many of whom continue to seek out his earlier work. After Massive Attack launched\ntheir own label\, Melankolic\, they released Skylarking\, a compilation of Andy’s career hits. Andy is the only singer of Massive Attack’s rotating group of guest artists to appear on each one of the band’s albums. He continues to tour worldwide with Massive.\nHorace Andy is delighted to be part of your event and will bring you all hit after hit of fine reggae music. On the second of April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falklands Islands with the aim of recapturing them through a claim that they had inherited the islands from Spain in the1800’s. \nThe Islands\, which had been controlled by Great Britain for nearly 150 years\, became a battle ground and the UK government were quick to defend both the Islands and it’s inhabitants. What was to follow saw the deaths of 655 Argentine Soldiers and 255 British Serviceman. \nAmongst those who were sent to the conflict was Simon Weston OBE.

Along with the likes of the Clash\, Sex Pistols\, The Jam\, Buzzcocks\, Undertones\, Sham 69\, Stranglers\, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives\, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland\, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77\, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label\, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel\, who started playing it every night.
