Ali’s love of folk music grew out of her time at Teacher Training College in Reading where she had the great fortune to join the Bulmershe Folk Choir and sang at Reading Uni’s Folk Club. Over the years she’s sung with chamber choirs and had a little foray into jazz but her heart is in our folk tradition. Mark Harmer is Ali’s harp teacher and during lockdown they experimented with creating arrangements together; sending vocal and harp parts back and forth and finally discovering Jamulus, which allowed them to work on their concerts in ‘real’ time from separate locations. “Tales with a Twist” is their first collaboration as a performing duo and is a wonderful exploration of love and (sometimes) revenge, with a healthy dash of harp music thrown in!
