The owners of a floating cafe in Gloucester Docks want to run their business out of a bigger narrowboat.

Leo Thomas-Lawton, who runs Cafe on the Cut, wants permission from Gloucester City Council to replace their current one at The Barge Arm.

He wants a larger one to provide more workspace as well as more indoor and outdoor seating space.

The latest proposals include the addition of a floating platform that will be used for seating.

The plans also include using nearby land as an external seating area. The floating platform will incorporate an extra boat which will assist with wastewater disposal, according to the planning application.

“We are replacing the current boat cafe with a larger one to provide more workspace as well as indoor and outdoor seating area. We are also adding an additional floating platform that will be used for seating and facilitating a wastewater disposal system – as we don’t have access to the sewage system,” he said.

“There is a Canal and River Trust pump-out by Llanthony Bridge, which the ancillary vessel will be able to use. This proposal incorporates the additional floating platform and ancillary vessel to make disposal of blackwater and greywater easier, without the need for regular pump-outs from trucks.”

Residents have until December 7 to comment on the proposals and can do so by visiting the city council’s online planning portal.

Planners are expected to consider the schemes by January 6.
