Independents Week
June 29th – 5th July 2026

Get ready to celebrate the heartbeat of our High Street!
Independents Week returns from 29th June to 5th July 2026, a week dedicated to championing the incredible independent businesses that give our local area its character, creativity and community spirit.
Across shops, cafés, restaurants, studios and service-based businesses, local traders are pulling out all the stops to showcase what makes them special, from unique products and bespoke services to exclusive offers and experiences you’ll only find here. Independents Week is your chance to explore, enjoy and support the people behind the places you love.
Whether you’re browsing for one-off gifts, discovering a new favourite eatery, or treating yourself to something special, there’s never been a better time to shop local, eat local and celebrate local. Independent businesses create the personality of our town and are key to a thriving, vibrant High Street, your support makes a real difference to owners, employees and the community as a whole.Â
Join the fun from 29th June to 5th July, check out the offers and events across our city, and discover hidden gems you’ll want to come back to again and again.
Independent businesses are so important!
They are the personality in any place and bring to life the diversity of the City.
Independents account for around 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country. Getting involved with Independents Week is your chance to show some love for local retailers that you couldn’t live without.
Independent businesses offer choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a more personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies.
It’s no secret that shoppers want diversity in their High Streets and independent retailers that give their towns a distinct character and service.
