Gloucester Goes Retro is back this August to transport the city back in time with a new 90s section and ‘Retro on the Water.’

The popular event takes place on Saturday 27 August. Expect a new 90s section in Kings Square with cars from the era, along with Your Next Move dance company and stage. There will also be a new ‘Retro on the Water’ section with boats in the docks from a range of eras. As usual, the four gate streets will be a buzz with over 400 vehicles, retro music and fashion dating from the 1900s all the way through to present day.

One of the highlights of the city’s vibrant festival calendar, the annual event is organised and funded by Gloucester City Council in partnership with the Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) and features classic vehicles filling the historic Gate Streets and Gloucester Docks.

Visitors will be delighted with Star Wars characters, army personnel, tank and military vehicles, superheros and vintage fashion from all eras, from hippies to rock and rollers.

There’ll be vehicles from the turn of the last century through to the roaring twenties, from the war years to the gleaming chrome of the fifties, the iconic designs of the swinging sixties to the classic sports cars of the eighties.

For music and dance enthusiasts, the Gloucester Goes Retro Stage sees vintage acts, and you can even join in with swing dancing.

Businesses, shops, attractions, restaurants, banks and pubs will all join in the fun by creating their own retro feel with shop front displays and staff dressed in costume.

Cllr Andrew Lewis, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “We are delighted that Gloucester Goes Retro will once again be celebrated in our vibrant city. In previous years, we have seen more than 80,000 visitors join us to celebrate bygone eras, with a huge and positive economic impact for our businesses and attractions. So, choose your favourite era, don your costume of choice, and we very much look forward to seeing you there.”

This year’s event is kindly supported by BigDug www.bigdug.com.
