If you are looking for a unique venue for a wedding or special event, you could explore the historic Llanthony Secunda Priory.

The heritage venue, which is next to Gloucester’s historic docks and set in spacious grounds, has capacity for 12 weddings a year and is already getting booked up for 2022 and beyond.

The priory which dates from 1136, is in five acres of landscaped grounds and can provide a reception for up to 140 people and wedding ceremonies for 60. Other events are catered for such as birthday parties, christening receptions, open days, exhibitions, and private tours. The venue is flexible for simply hiring the space for what you want.

Llanthony Secunda Priory is owned and managed by a charitable trust. The two main buildings dating from the 15th century have been restored and conserved with the help of a lottery fund. At present, it’s a ‘dry-hire’ venue meaning you bring the catering and decorations, but the Trust is considering all-inclusive packages. The premises are licenced and welcome civil ceremonies and partnerships in both the Lady Margaret Hall and Henry Dene Hall.

Marketing & Functions Administrator, Kimberly Seville said, ‘We’re really flexible here and people love the unique nature of our venue.  Dry-hire is a really popular option, as the halls provide a beautiful backdrop for wedding couples and event organisers to theme the halls as they wish.

Our flexible and intimate spaces are full of character and history. Whether you dream of a simple ceremony, a vintage style afternoon tea or glamorous wedding reception, our warm and relaxed atmosphere makes us the perfect venue to celebrate with family and friends.’

Along with weddings and other private events, the priory hosts outdoor theatre in the summer and can host local bands on an outdoor stage. The spacious gardens can comfortably accommodate audiences of 500+ providing a popular choice for outdoor shows and concerts.
