If you’re not going abroad during this heatwave, you could visit Trattoria Settebello where the food, service and atmosphere (and now the weather!) will make you feel like you’re sitting around an Italian family dining table.

The independent business in Gloucester Docks draws customers from miles around, including Cheltenham, with its locally or Italian sourced fresh and quality Italian food. The delicious pizzas, pasta and speciality dishes are all created and prepared by expert chefs, including the pizza chef ‘pizzaioli’ direct from Naples and overseen by executive Italian chef, Francesco Volgo. He has been with the restaurant since it opened in November 2019.

Francesco ensures that the Settebello values are upheld. He said, ‘Italian food in general is all about the food itself; it’s about cooking good quality produce well to give a maximum taste sensation. The food draws many people here and if it’s not fresh and quality produce, it’s not going on the menu.’

Restaurant manager Marco Colombo is proud of the whole offer at Settebello, he said, ‘We are confident to say that we have a unique and independent business with high quality and exciting food and new offers all the time. Combined with great service from people with personality – it’s more of an experience than just a meal out!’

Settebello’s dishes reflect the menus of southern Italian and Neapolitan with pizza and pasta but there is so much more than that. They aim to source the finest ingredients possible and highest quality produce by using a mix of authentic Italian goods alongside using the best local suppliers available. For example, all the ingredients on your dish is authentic right down to the speciality tomatoes and pasta sauce. You won’t find a ‘Spag Bol’ here, as spaghetti bolognaise is a dish that people from Bologna do not even associate with!

Settebello offers a huge option of unique family recipe fresh pizzas made with locally sourced flours and Tipo “00” flours from Italy. You can also enjoy a metre long pizza experience with your friends and family. The pizza dough is traditionally not strictly a sourdough but more of a hybrid using very little yeast and long fermentation to increase flavour. They also supply a naturally gluten free option.

The fresh pastas include dishes such as Casarecce Al Pesto and Rigatoni Con Ragù. Along with appetisers, anti-pasta, pizzas and pastas, you’ll find meat and fish on the menu including a chargrilled sirloin steak ‘Tagliata di Manzo’ and chicken, lamb and fillet beef dishes. Fresh fish currently includes a ‘Spiedino of Tiger Prawns’ and the Spigola Pizzaiola which is filet of seabass fillet of seabass, lemon, parsley, potato and salsa verde. You can also enjoy lighter options such as a ‘Schiacciate’ – an Italian Open Pizza Sandwich.

Alongside the restaurant, the popular Italian bar offers over 50 cocktails to rival London bars which you can enjoy without dining in the spacious and peaceful waterside location.

The Settebello is the most important card in a Neapolitan Card game called Scopa and means, ‘The Beautiful 7’ – In this context, it’s supposed to be something like the ‘Lucky 7.’ We are sure that any experience at Settebello Trattoria will leave you feeling very lucky!
