City Protection Officers (CPOs) remained highly active throughout November 2025, supporting public safety, protecting local businesses and assisting vulnerable individuals across the city centre.
During the month, CPOs attended 79 police CCTV incidents, carried out 617 store visits, and recovered £2,129.89 in stolen goods. Officers dealt with 120 shoplifting incidents, undertook 428 welfare checks, and engaged with street drinking, begging and antisocial behaviour to help keep the city safe and welcoming.
A key focus of activity was safeguarding vulnerable people, with CPOs responding to mental health concerns, injuries, intoxication and missing persons. Officers worked closely with police, ambulance services and partner agencies to ensure individuals received appropriate support and care.
CPOs also played a vital role in deterring retail crime, identifying known offenders, recovering stolen items and supporting police with arrests and enforcement action. Regular patrols and close coordination with CCTV helped prevent incidents from escalating.
Throughout November, officers continued to work in partnership with Gloucester BID, City Safe, police and other agencies through weekly Huddle and Safer Streets meetings, ensuring a coordinated response to emerging issues.
The continued presence of City Protection Officers provides reassurance to businesses, residents and visitors, contributing to a safer and more supportive city centre.
