A councillor has been given the go-ahead to demolish a porch and build a conservatory on their Gloucestershire farmhouse.

Tewkesbury Borough Council approved the plans for Astmans Farm, Lassington Lane, Highnam on August 16.

The property is a detached brick farmhouse, potentially dated 18th century or earlier which officers said has been subject to a number of “unsympathetic alterations”.

The scheme sought planning permission for the demolition of existing porch and erection of conservatory to the front.

The proposals, which council officers recommended granting permission, were brought before the planning committee because the applicant Jill Smith is a councillor.

The Conservative ward councillor for Highnam with Haw Bridge is also a Tewkesbury Borough Council planning committee member.

Councillors voted unanimously to approve the scheme.
