Help serve up culture at city museum

Are you looking to expand your local catering business? Could you cook for the city’s hungry tourists? If the answer is yes, the city council could be looking for you.

Following a review of the catering services provided at the Museum of Gloucester Café, Gloucester City Council is inviting interested parties to bid to run the service.

The Museum of Gloucester on Brunswick Road in Gloucester hosts a number of events and exhibitions throughout the year, including the hugely successful robot exhibition which saw over 37,000 people coming to visit within the first five weeks.

The council carried out a public consultation into the catering services offered in the city’s premises earlier this year, and the findings were presented to the council’s overview and scrutiny committee in June.

Recommendations were then made to the council’s cabinet, where it was agreed to invite expressions of interest from community sector organisations or individual businesses to run the café service.

Cllr Lise Noakes, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “I’m grateful to everyone that took the time to respond to our consultation, and to the overview and scrutiny committee for their recommendations.

“We carried out a review to make sure that we’re making the best use of our catering facilities and now we want to hear from any community organisations or businesses that are interested in running the Museum of Gloucester Café.

“I’d encourage them to get in touch with us by the deadline so we can keep on serving visitors with food as well as culture!”

The open tender will run until 26th September 2016.
