Highways admit bus lane is ‘unenforceable’ by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
The bus lane near Sainsbury’s in Gloucester is unenforceable according to Gloucestershire Highways.
There is a bus lane marked out on approach to the roundabout in Hobbs Way but it is not a publicly maintained road.
This information came to light after a resident asked on Twitter if it was a proper bus lane.
“It appears that most drivers seem to think it isn’t and use it as a shortcut to the new estate. If it isn’t an official bus lane could the signage be updated?” they asked.
A highways spokesperson confirmed that there is currenly no traffic regulation order fo a bus lane at Hobbs Way.
They explained that it is not an adopted highway. Unadopted roads are highways which may offer the public access but do not actually belong to the public road network
“There is no traffic regulation order for a bus lane along Hobbs Way, Gloucester and the part of Hobbs Way where a bus lane is situated is currently not adopted highway.”
