Improvements to the Elmbridge roundabout are well underway by Kate | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/
Gloucestershire County Council and its partners are now one week into the work on Elmbridge roundabout and crews are well on track.
This week the initial works to the roundabout have seen crews start the digging through the centre of the roundabout. This essential work is the first phase to the much needed ‘hamburger lane’ which will ultimately ease traffic flow and reduce congestion.
The new lane isn’t a simple job and in order to facilitate this work the inner roundabout lane will be closed and lanes will remain narrowed on the approach for approximately another five weeks.
Works have also begun on the extension to the Elmbridge Court subway. This week the crews started the foundation work for the new walls and will continue this aspect of the project next week.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “So far we’ve received really positive feedback on the works being done, it’s clear that people are really behind this project. It’s great that now the crews are on the ground and already making such fantastic progress.
“This scheme is very much needed to help relieve traffic flow in a central part of Gloucestershire. We’re asking road users and local residents and businesses to bear with us throughout the works, especially the first six weeks, and perhaps allow extra time for your journey if you’re using the roundabout.”
