A man has been charged with a serious assault on a vulnerable man in an alleyway off Cromwell Street in Gloucester in March.
Christopher McGlynn, 33 and of Cromwell Street, Gloucester, was charged with section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and robbery and will appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court in September.
The charges relate to an incident that happened in an alleyway that links Cromwell Street and St Michaels Square at around 7.30pm on Thursday 24 March.
The victim – a 59-year-old man – left his sheltered housing and walked to Wellington Stores to buy some cigarettes. He left the shop and entered the alleyway, where he was seriously assaulted and robbed of the cigarettes.
The victim suffered a fractured eye socket and a broken jaw in the incident. He later suffered a bleed on the brain but is now recovering in a nursing home.
Two men, aged 37 and 40, who were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident, have had there bail cancelled and will face no further action.
