Renovation work has begun at Gloucester Guildhall.
The grade II listed arts venue has been awarded £230,702 for a revamp by the Arts Council to help Gloucester Guildhall enhance its live and digital performances.
Gloucester Guildhall offers a variety of live shows such as music, comedy, theatre, dance, and contemporary film as well as participatory workshops and art exhibitions, and sees over 50,000 people passing through the doors annually.
The renovation works includes creating a new dance rehearsal space with a sprung floor, high-quality lighting, and audio equipment.
The main hall floor, the bar and the kitchen will all benefit from refurbishment work.
The length of the bar will also be extended, and super-fast broadband will be installed throughout the venue including all meeting and conference spaces.
Cllr Andrew Lewis, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “We are very grateful to be awarded this much needed funding from the Arts Council England. The funding allows us to develop some ambitious plans for Gloucester Guildhall as we revise and improve our events and services for the future.
“These refurbishment works demonstrate the city council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining cultural venues for all citizens of Gloucester to enjoy.”
Gloucester Guildhall is aiming to reopen early September 2022, however whilst the works ongoing the team will still be available by telephoning 01452-503050 or by visiting the box office:
Monday: 10am – 2pm
Wednesday and Friday: 10am -12pm
During the closure the Guildhall team will still be delivering an exciting programme of off-site events over the summer including Seasick Steve live at Llanthony Secunda Priory on Sunday 24 July and The Sherlocks plus guests in Gloucester Park on Saturday 20 August.
