What would you choose to be part of our history?

This autumn, the city council will be burying a little bit of Gloucester’s history underneath the new bus station and are asking the public what treasures they think should be included. 

A time capsule will be buried underneath the new look bus station this autumn. Members of the public, local businesses and schools are being asked what they would like to represent Gloucester and included in the capsule.

This little piece of Gloucester’s history will be hidden under the new bus station and hopefully rediscovered in the distant future. Its contents will represent what Gloucester stands for.

Items could include a copy of the local paper and a photo of the cathedral as it is today. Or a Rugby World cup ticket, a bottle of ale from the Gloucester brewery and a signed photo of Simon Pegg could be amongst the treasures.

All suggestions are welcome, no matter how bizarre, big, or bold. People are being asked to send their suggestions, along with a brief explanation of why it should be buried, to " target="_blank" rel="noopener">heretohelp@gloucester.gov.uk by 17^th August  2016.

The final objects will be announced on 31^st August, before being buried on 1^st September 2016 by a VIP guest who will be announced later this month.

Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Time capsules are a fantastic way to give future generations an insight into our lives today.

“As we regenerate the city centre, now is a time to remember and celebrate Gloucester – our values, our successes and our communities. I’m looking forward to seeing all the suggestions”

The new bus station hub in the heart of Gloucester city centre will be the new gateway to the city. The modern design includes will include a fully enclosed station, 12 bus bays, a manned ticket office, electronic timetable displays, a new cafe and CCTV.

With funding from the GFirst LEP and the Gloucestershire Local Transport Board, the new £7.5million bus station will be completed in the summer 2017.
