Take a stroll down Westgate Street’s colourful past.

Windows are part of the character of a building. They are a clue of the age of the building. See if you can match colourful suspended windows on an illuminated Westgate Street to the right building. This February, artist Jack Wimperis will be re-creating architectural window light installations floating in the air about Westgate Street.

People have lived, worked, prayed, and played in Westgate Street since Roman times. Each period in history has left its own mark on the fabric of the street, making today’s Westgate Street a precious historical record of how people lived in the past.

Not only do windows protect us from the elements, and bring light into our homes, they also tell a story of our ancestor’s past. Trace history this February as you wander down Westgate Street. You can pick up a trail leaflet for the Windows Through Time from Westgate Quarter’s HQ.

On 18-20 February, to celebrate the start of half-term, there will be special activities along Westgate Street, including street performers. St Nicholas’ Church will also be open for people to take a look inside this historic church which is rarely open to the public.
