Police are appealing for witnesses to a racially-motivated assault at a bus stop in Matson in Gloucester.

The incident happened at about 9am on Saturday 20 August in Norbury Avenue, near its junction with Baneberry Way.

A group of people were standing at the stop when a white man in his 20s got out of a white van and approached them. He appeared to be drunk and started verbally-abusing two of the waiting passengers, who were both black. He then punched one of them.

Police are keen to trace the victim who was punched. He was black and in his 20s and believed to be a Matson resident.

A 22-year-old local man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and racially-aggravated public order offences and bailed till 28 September.

Any witnesses who have not already come forward, including any who were on the bus that arrived while the incident was happening, is asked to call 101, quoting incident 152 of 20/8/16.
