There’s more to Gloucester than meets the eye, and a growing team of volunteers is out on the streets to prove it.
The Welcome to Gloucester Ambassadors are now live across the city, on hand to point visitors, workers and residents towards the shops, eateries, attractions and events that make Gloucester worth a closer look. You’ll spot them in their new uniforms, ready with local knowledge and a friendly welcome.
For newcomers and lifelong locals alike, the message is the same: this is a city that rewards a closer look.
Carena, a Gloucester Ambassador, said: “I love Gloucester city and I want to share the love. Scratch under the surface and there are so many hidden gems on our streets.”
Penny, another Ambassador, said: “As a newcomer to Gloucester I’ve been enthralled with the history and beauty of the city, always look up. Being able to share this with visitors is so exciting. And there are great independent shops and restaurants well worth promoting. I love Gloucester!”
The programme is run by Gloucester BID. John Riley, Ambassador Coordinator, said: “Since starting in my role I’ve felt part of a wave of positivity washing across our city. Every time I connect with one of our Ambassadors, volunteering their time, the passion for Gloucester is clear. A community is being built, and at its core is a desire to see the city be the best it can be. Our role is to give a warm, friendly and informative welcome to everyone visiting, working and living here, showing off the fantastic businesses, eateries, attractions and events Gloucester has to offer. We’re a growing community of passionate people from all walks of life, and we invite anyone who shares that passion to join us.”
The Ambassadors are backed by Fasthosts, the web hosting company that’s called Gloucester home since 1998. Rupert Bedell, Managing Director at Fasthosts, said: “Gloucester is where Fasthosts started and where our team works every day, so backing the Ambassadors was an easy decision. They’re the friendly welcome that helps people see everything the city has to offer, and we’re proud to support them.”
