If you fancy a visit to one of Gloucester’s hidden gems, try Hooker and Eight – the city’s only independent sit-down pizza joint.

Owners Dan and Balz opened Hooker and Eight on Westgate Street in 2019. Since then, it’s been rated ‘Excellent’ on TripAdvisor where you’ll find reviews describing, ‘Absolutely fabulous food & service, and the ‘amazing food and a team that can’t do enough for you.’

The Gloucester Rugby inspired décor in the restaurant has been up-cycled or sourced second hand. The result creates a chilled, warm and inviting 30-seater restaurant with top grade pizza and the best eclectic beats blasted out all day.

The pizzas are all freshly handmade with 48-hour proofed hand-stretch dough made from Shipton Mill flour and live yeast from St. George’s Bakery in Hartpury. The toppings, all with a slow-cooked sauce, include classics like the ‘Cherry and White Margherita’ to the more interesting, such as The Sin Bin pizza created by rugby player Lewis Ludlow which has a combination of Old Spot sausage, smoked bacon and pickled red onions.

Owner Dan said, ‘We take serious pride in everything that goes onto our dough and are proud that the vast majority of our ingredients are sourced from local Gloucestershire businesses. Gloucester match days are extra special at the restaurant. Everyone wearing their cherry & white, proud and tall. A buzz similar to the Shed – you will need to book in advance on these days!’

Along with delicious food, Hooker and Eight hosts regular quiz nights, raffles and there are also plans to run pizza making workshops. Follow the Facebook page here for updates: https://www.facebook.com/hookerandeight/
