Residents and businesses are being invited to help shape a safer Gloucester as part of National Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week (29 June – 5 July).
Gloucestershire Constabulary is supporting the national campaign, which raises awareness of anti-social behaviour (ASB), supports victims and encourages communities to work together to improve safety. Locally, this is supported by the Gloucestershire ASB Action Plan, which focuses on reducing harm, protecting victims and tackling issues including youth disorder, street drinking and the illegal use of e-bikes.
As part of the week, the Gloucester City Police Neighbourhood Team, alongside Gloucester BID and Gloucester City Safe, will be in Kings Square on Thursday 2 July, from 10am to 1pm, inviting residents, visitors and businesses to share their experiences of ASB and discuss the issues affecting the city centre. Partnership teams will also be out engaging with businesses and the public across the city centre.
This week also highlights the importance of reporting anti-social behaviour and crime, no matter how small it may seem. Every report helps build a clearer picture of local issues, allowing police and partner agencies to target resources where they are needed most. If incidents aren’t reported, it can appear there are no problems, potentially resulting in fewer patrols and less support.
Businesses are also encouraged to complete Gloucester BID and Gloucester City Safe’s Anti-Social Behaviour Survey, which will help compare current issues with findings from a similar survey carried out in 2023 and shape future partnership work.
Steve Lindsay, Manager at Gloucester City Safe, said:
“Anti-social behaviour has a real impact on businesses, residents and visitors. We want to hear directly from those affected so we can continue working together to make Gloucester a safer, more welcoming city. Whether you attend the event or complete the survey, your feedback really does make a difference.”
Claire Knight, Marketing & Business Engagement Lead at Gloucester BID, said:
“Our businesses play a vital role in the city centre, and their experiences help us understand where support is needed most. We encourage business owners/managers to come along to Kings Square tomorrow, speak to a member of the Neighbourhood Team to find out what support is available. We would also love for businesses to take a few minutes to complete the survey so we can continue to build a safer city together.”
Come and speak to us in Kings Square on Thursday, 2nd July between 10am and 1pm.
