Meet the wonderful volunteers and trustees of The Raven – one of Gloucester’s most historic buildings.

The Raven Senior’s Association has been running since the 1960s with the aims of providing a place for the elderly in the community, along with taking care of the upkeep of the 15th century building.

The Raven is open on a Tuesday and Friday between 10am and 1pm for coffee and tea with a shop outside, all proceeds go back into the running and maintenance of the building.

The volunteers hold regular events and outings for members. These include a monthly luncheon with the next coming up on Friday 14th October at 1pm. There’s also a Christmas shopping trip to Bristol planned and a Christmas party.

The Raven building is on Hare Lane which used to be one of the main routes into Gloucester. Its original use was as a coaching house and then a merchants house owned by the Hoare family. The building still has its original roof beams and the exterior dates from the 15th century. Recent restoration of the oak work was funded by the trustees and carried out by a local company.

Chair of the Trustees Phil Courteney said, ‘We have a lovely space here for people to come along and meet others in the community. Get in touch if you fancy coming along or helping out and the centre is also available for room hire.’
