Sit back and relax…

At only 24 years of age, Jodie is running her own business, the Quay Yoga Studio, she does everything from teaching yoga to management.

With help from The Prince’s Trust, Jodie has been able to create a relaxing environment where people can unwind, whether it’s to relieve pain from an injury or to reduce stress. The business has only been around since October 2016 and in its first year managed to be a finalist in the Muddy Stilettos 2017 awards.

When asked why Jodie chose to open her studio here in Gloucester, she replied “as a city, Gloucester was deprived of yoga.”

Jodie’s journey started at 16 when she first started practicing yoga; from there she moved to London to be part of a theatre company where they also used yoga. At the age of 20, she moved back home and started to teach yoga in the evenings, she soon realised that she wanted to go full time with her passion!

There are two main types of yoga, hot yoga and traditional yoga. Hot yoga “replicates the traditional temperatures that yoga is practised in their traditional countries; it is great for opening the muscles that little bit quicker.” During Autumn through until the end of Spring people tend to favour the hot yoga and then switch to traditional during the warmer months.

Jodie has received fantastic support from the locals here in Gloucester from the very beginning of her business adventure at the Quay Yoga Studio.

“The body achieves what the mind believes” – Jodie (owner of Quay Yoga Studio).
