Gloucestershire Libraries are ready to celebrate World Book Day across the county next week, giving families the opportunity to take part in all things book-related.
Children can choose to wear a costume of their favourite book character or pyjamas for the whole day – their mission being to promote reading for pleasure.
There will be lots of Baby Bounce and ‘Rhyme and Storytime’ sessions to enjoy around the county throughout the week, with World Book Day taking place on Thursday 2 March.
Four Gloucestershire-based authors – Helen Anson, Fiona Ross, Louise Speaight and Lois Kingscott – will be hosting themed story events just for local primary school students at Prestbury, Longlevens, Matson and Quedgeley Libraries.
Many libraries have also been busy preparing for the day by offering a book or character-themed costume swap, supporting the message to recycle, reuse and reduce waste, while saving money.
The libraries taking part in the costume swap initiative are Quedgeley, Matson, Tuffley, Longlevens, Moreton, Chipping Campden, Charlton Kings, Winchcombe, Dursley, Bishops Cleeve, Prestbury, Nailsworth, Tewkesbury, Churchdown, Stonehouse and Fairford.

Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member for libraries, said: “World Book Day is a fantastic event to encourage children to read for fun and Gloucestershire Libraries are putting on many fun activities for all the family to enjoy.
“I hope the events are well attended and would encourage people take advantage of the offer of costume swaps, as it’s great way to save waste and money.”
