Luke Lutman, Gloucester Chamber of Commerce
Independant businesses are a highlight of Gloucester city centre and have been growing in numbers over the last few years.
Food and drink have seen great gains in the city with Westgate Street becoming an independent food outlet hot spot, providing a huge range of options for people wanting a food adventure. The Gloucester Food Dock has also seen the number of businesses they support grow and with it a market for locally sourced food and drink.
Independent businesses support local hard-working people, putting food on their tables instead of paying dividends to shareholders of large corporations. Spending your money at an independent business keeps the money you spend in the local economy.
I have spent many evenings and lunchtimes in the independent food and drink businesses in the city, but the top level of the Food Dock is my favourite spot, with a pint of something from the Hop Kettle or a coffee and gelato from Wholly Gelato and then maybe a Bella Mia Pizza.
Make sure you keep supporting your local independent businesses and keep an eye out for more of them opening soon.
