Gloucestershire County Council is celebrating replacing 10,000 lamps with LED technology across the county.

In May, work began in Cheltenham to upgrade streetlights with the more efficient and better quality lamps, whilst work continued in Gloucester.

The plan is to replace approximately 55,000 streetlights across the county over three years, with the work starting in November last year.

To help residents learn more about LED streetlights, and their benefits, the county council has been holding a series of community events where residents can ask questions and find out more about the scheme.

There is another event taking place on Thursday 23rd June in Prestbury near the shops on Prestbury Road from 3pm to 6pm in the following locations:

Events have already started in Cheltenham, and events have previously taken place in Gloucester.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: “As we’ve reached the 10,000 mark, it is important to realise why we are doing this. The benefits of using LED street lighting include; a better quality of light, a decrease in light pollution and a 70 per cent reduction in energy usage.”

“I would like to thank all the residents who have taken out time to come to one of the events we have put on to learn about the benefits and positives of these LED lights. Anyone else who wants to find out the benefits or these lights should definitely come to the event to learn more.”

Each household will receive a letter before work begins in their area.
