Luke Lutman, President, Gloucester Chamber of Commerce

Independent businesses form the base fabric of any city. Gloucester has some great independent businesses creating a unique identity with an offering found nowhere else. Developing a community, independent businesses boost the local economy hiring local people and training staff who then spend their money locally.

Looking into the future of the city, fostering and developing independent businesses and increasing the draw and opportunity for independent businesses will further develop the city. There is a lot of development in the city and a large amount of available retail and hospitality units so I am looking forward to more independents moving in.

Gloucester has a wealth of independent businesses with an ever-expanding number of food and drink businesses. My favourite place for an after work drink is Gloucester Brewery’s Warehouse 4, right on the Quays with a friendly atmosphere and a range of events and amazing beers. Tiger’s Eye Restaurant on Southgate Street in the city centre is my favourite spot for a meal out. With its unique offering of food and hot rock grilling it’s a must for anyone spending an evening in the city.
