New Homes Play Tribute to Former Housing Manager

Nine new properties were officially launched in Coney Hill last week.

The development brings eight high quality two-bed bungalows and a four-bed house on the previous garage site and wasteland and delivers more much needed accessible affordable housing to the area.

The new development is named Norman Thomas Walk after the previous Housing Manager at Gloucester City Council, who sadly passed away in 2011. As a fitting tribute, Norman’s sister, Tina, opened the properties alongside former councillor Mary Smith.

This development marks Gloucester City Homes’ fifth new build development in Gloucester over the past year.

Ashley Green, Chief Executive at Gloucester City Homes said: “The launch was a special day. Norman Thomas was a true inspiration to myself and many Housing Officers both with the City Council and GCH during his career and it is fitting that our new housing development is named after him. I am sure Norman will be looking down on these new homes with a wonderful smile.  I am so pleased that his sister Tina was there to launch our new homes.”

Michael Hill, Director of Property Services at Gloucester City Homes added: “GCH are making a real difference to the lives of many people, providing improved life chances through the provision of well designed, safe and warm homes. There is much more to be done but we have made a great start with 5 new developments in our first year as a new housing association.”

New resident Mrs Dee commented: ‘“I am really happy with my new bungalow, I didn’t want to move out of Coney Hill so this is perfect for me. Properties like this are needed to get elderly people out of family homes in the area.”
